Tower climbing is inherently dangerous work. At Twin Eagle Solutions, safety isn't just a priority — it's a core value that guides every decision we make. Here are five safety protocols that every tower climbing team should follow.
1. Comprehensive Pre-Climb Planning
Every climb begins with a thorough Job Safety Analysis (JSA) that identifies potential hazards, establishes control measures, and defines emergency procedures. The climbing crew reviews the JSA together before any work begins.
2. 100% Tie-Off Policy
Our teams maintain 100% tie-off from the moment they leave the ground until they return. This means climbers are always connected to the tower structure with at least one fall arrest device at all times — no exceptions.
3. Equipment Inspection
All personal protective equipment (PPE), including harnesses, lanyards, and positioning devices, is inspected before every climb. Any equipment showing signs of wear, damage, or degradation is immediately removed from service.
4. Weather Monitoring
Climbing operations are suspended during adverse weather conditions including high winds (sustained above 30 mph), lightning within 10 miles, icing conditions, or reduced visibility. Real-time weather monitoring continues throughout every job.
5. Communication Protocols
Every climbing crew maintains continuous communication with a ground-based safety observer. Two-way radios, visual signals, and predetermined emergency codes ensure that help is always seconds away.
Continuous Training
Safety protocols are only effective when crews are trained, competent, and committed. Our teams undergo regular refresher training, rescue drills, and competency assessments to ensure they're always prepared.
Where Twin Eagle fits
Our climbers are certified and rescue-trained, and the protocols above are practiced, not just documented. Crews carry out tower and aerial inspections, antenna and line work, and aerial-lift access across the lower 48. Inspections are visual — our crews document condition with photos and detailed reports rather than performing structural engineering certifications.
For turn-key tower builds, it is important to be clear about scope: Twin Eagle does not erect steel in-house. We coordinate vetted erection partners and act as the single project manager and point of contact from planning through commissioning, so safety standards and accountability stay consistent across every crew on site. That structure keeps responsibility in one place while bringing in specialists for the parts of the job that demand them.
